Two patients, years of unrelieved bladder pain — and a two-year symptom-free recovery

Patel K, Patel M, Bhatt C. J Ayurveda Integr Med. 2026 Jul 24;17(4):101358. PMID: 42497785

Years of pain
11 years for Patient 1, 3 years for Patient 2 — constant urgency, voiding every 5 minutes, severe pelvic pain.
Prior treatment failed
Patient 1’s ulcers were surgically cauterized in 2018 — no lasting relief. Patient 2 was advised surgery and declined.
Ayurvedic care begins
Jatyadi Taila Uttarabasti (oil instillation) with Virechana Karma, administered daily under hospital care.
Rapid relief
Pain and urinary frequency improved markedly within the treatment course.
2 years later
Both patients remained stable and symptom-free at final follow-up — no surgery required.

“I could hold urine for much longer, and I was able to return to my normal routine” — this is what published, peer-reviewed recovery looks like.

“Before starting Ayurvedic treatment, I had severe pain and had to pass urine every few minutes, which made it impossible to sleep or carry out my daily activities… After undergoing the Ayurvedic treatment, my pain gradually disappeared, I could hold urine for much longer, and I was able to return to my normal routine.”

— Patient 1, quoted in the published case series

Pain (VAS): 9/10 & 6/10 → 0/10 & 1/10 Quality of life: up to 97% improved Surgery: avoided by both patients Follow-up: 2 years, stable
Clinical Abstract

Two patients with chronic interstitial cystitis and Hunner’s ulcers, non-responsive to conventional treatments, received individualized Ayurvedic treatment. Clinical progress was tracked using the VAS pain scale, King’s Health Questionnaire, and IC-Quality of Life score over a two-year follow-up.

Both patients showed significant, lasting improvement — pain reduced from severe to near-zero, urinary frequency and nocturia normalized, and quality-of-life scores reflected near-complete symptom resolution, stable throughout follow-up.

On dialysis twice a week, facing a transplant — off dialysis within months, stable two years on

Patel K, Patel K, Patel M, Bhatt C, Patel M. J Ayurveda Integr Med. 2025 Nov–Dec;16(6):101177. PMID: 41092833

CKD progresses
Chronic kidney disease advanced to Stage 5 — end-stage kidney failure.
Dialysis begins
Hemodialysis twice weekly for two months. Creatinine held at 12 mg/dL even on dialysis. Transplant advised.
Ayurvedic care begins
Individualized Ayurvedic treatment started as an alternative to transplant.
Dialysis stopped
Creatinine fell to 2.1 mg/dL, eGFR rose from 5 to 34.8 — dialysis discontinued entirely.
2 years later
Stable off dialysis, medication-free apart from antihypertensives.

A transplant was on the table. Two years later, this patient hasn’t needed dialysis once.

Creatinine: 12 → 2.1 mg/dL eGFR: 5 → 34.8 mL/min/1.73m² Hemoglobin: 9.7 → 14 g% Dialysis: fully stopped Follow-up: 2 years, stable
Clinical Abstract

A male patient with CKD Stage 5 — on hemodialysis twice weekly and advised for a kidney transplant — was treated with Ayurveda. His serum creatinine held at 12 mg/dL even with dialysis before treatment began.

After Ayurvedic treatment: creatinine fell to 2.1 mg/dL, hemoglobin rose from 9.7 to 14 g%, and eGFR improved from 5 to 34.8 mL/min/1.73m². Dialysis was stopped entirely, and the improvement remained stable for two years, off all medication except antihypertensives.
